This page will describe the potential, not the present reality of naturist activities in the Dead Sea area. It seems that the Dead Sea area has a great potential for different kinds of naturist activities. Several past experiences prove it.

What can naturists expect in this special region?

1. The natural combination of health and recreation. People who come to the Dead Sea region to enjoy skin exposure to the sun in order to overcome different diseases can enjoy at the same time social naturism in this fascinating landscape. Some do it today, in areas separated to men/women or in free co-ed areas.

2. The climate of the Dead Sea basin is warm and beautiful in the winter. During November to March, when bathing or even only undressing on the beaches of the Mediterranean is too cool - this is the place to come. The temperature of the Dead Sea waters is never cold, there is almost no rain, and the sun is very pleasant.

3. Summer can offer another kind of naturist activity: moonlight nature walks. Many natural desert spots around the Dead Sea are quiet, open, beautiful and warm on summer nights. Each month has its 4-5 days around the middle of the Hebrew month when the moon is full or almost full. The combination of moonlit night with the hot but dry desert air is unique. You can easily find your privacy and enjoy an activity that is almost impossible in the non-desert regions of Israel.

4. Some spots on the shores of the Dead Sea have sweet water springs. You can enjoy bathing in the salty water, you can find in some places the natural black mud to treat your skin, and still be able to wash and refresh yourself after this very special experience.

What might still make it difficult for naturists?

1. Naturism is still unknown, unrecognized, suspected or resented in Israel. You may have some difficulty to feel comfortable in open places that are visited by 'regulars'.

2. There are no places that are recognized as clothing optional areas in the Dead Sea, as well as in other places in Israel. The spas, the hotel pools and the public organized beaches are still far from recognizing naturism as a potential group that can contribute to the business.

3. The natural, free to the public, spots that have sweet water springs and some shade are very scarce, therefore in a danger of becoming over populated or even dirty - which will make it unpleasant for naturists who look for quiet and clean, undisturbed and pretty places.

Good News! The Siesta beach, at the north (not far from Kibbutz Kalia), had decided to establish a clothing optional section. The Israeli Naturist Society has visited this site on Shabbat October 7th, and the impression is positive. The facilities of this place include a nice Dead Sea beach, some black mud, a small refreshing sweet water pool, shade etc... We hope that the nearby new resort village, now in construction, will encourage naturists to come and enjoy this pioneer Israeli spot. Good luck!
